The Lexus RZ 450e sales will begin in autumn 2022

The Lexus RZ 450e will run on European roads in early 2023. It is the first model from Lexus to be developed from scratch as an electric car. For a few days now, interested parties have booked one of the first production slots and reserved an RZ 450e free of charge. However, the prices will not be communicated until the pre-sales are expected to start in autumn.

The new RZ 450e is the first Lexus car to be based from the start on an all-electric e-TNGA platform. The e-TNGA platform was designed by Toyota and Subaru, which offer their own models on the same platform. The first three electric cars look very similar, but the electric crossover SUV from Lexus stands out from the Toyota and Subaru models in terms of performance and premium standards.

The total output of the two electric motors in the Lexus RZ 450e is 230 kW (313 hp). The vehicle has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 71.4 kW. Details on the range and charging times will be announced later. Lexus expects the RZ 450e to cover more than 400 kilometers per battery charge in the combined WLTP cycle. Combined power consumption of 18.1 kWh/100 km is targeted.

Lexus emphasizes the Steer-by-Wire control and system used for the first time in the RZ 450e, which is intended to offer the driver an entirely new dynamic driving experience. Instead of a mechanical connection, the driver's input from the steer-by-wire steering wheel is sent to the wheels via an electrical link, which is said to improve response, feedback, and steering precision. According to Lexus, lower vibrations when driving over rough roads, stable control, and correction in strong crosswinds are other advantages of the system. However, it remains to be seen whether the previously shown steering wheel in the "Yoke" design without an upper rim is part of the standard equipment.

"Any news about the start of orders for the Lexus RZ 450e electric SUV will automatically be sent to interested parties by e-mail. As soon as the first vehicles arrive in the Lexus dealerships, there will also be the opportunity for exclusive test drives. The online reservation can be canceled without giving a reason," advertises Lexus.
