The IVECO eDAILY is a fully electric commercial vehicle that offers zero emissions, low noise, and high performance. But how does it fare when it comes to towing heavy loads? Well, it can do more than you might think.
In fact, the IVECO eDAILY recently set a new Guinness World Record for the heaviest mass moved by an electric vehicle. The record-breaking feat involved towing a trailer with 45 tons of batteries and a tractor unit with a gross weight of 108.5 tons. The vehicle's total mass and load was 153.6 tons, equivalent to about 20 African elephants.
The challenge took place at the FCA Proving Ground in Balocco, Italy, where the IVECO E-Daily had to cover a distance of 50 meters on a 3% slope. The vehicle was driven by Fabio Buzzi, a professional driver and multiple world champion in powerboat racing.
The IVECO eDAILY completed the task in 22 seconds, reaching a speed of 8 km/h. The vehicle was equipped with a standard 90 kW electric motor and a 198 kWh battery pack. The only modification made to the vehicle was the installation of a fifth wheel to connect the trailer.
The Guinness World Records official adjudicator, Lucia Sinigagliesi, verified the achievement at the event. She said: “This is an incredible record and one that highlights how electric vehicles can also have extraordinary power and strength. Congratulations to IVECO on this remarkable feat.”
The record was part of a campaign called “Challenge the Impossible”, which aims to showcase the capabilities and benefits of electric vehicles in different scenarios. The campaign is supported by IVECO, FPT Industrial, and Nikola Corporation, three companies that are collaborating to develop innovative solutions for sustainable transport.
